‘I have tried to do a Rajnikanth’ – Nisha

Attempting to churn out a remake of a classic is generally not much approved and when the movie in question is Ramesh Sippy’s ‘Sholay’, the stakes are too many to count. Justifying it to be a tribute to the original seems to be the argument that most filmmakers make these days.

However, that doesn’t seem to pacify  purists and actor Nisha Kothari, who features in ‘Ram Gopal Varma Ki Aag’, couldn’t agree more. “I guess it’s fair if every second person is opposed to a ‘Sholay’ remake. It’s a benchmark film. I agree ours is more of a tribute. Had I not been a part of it, there would have been a fair amount of disapproval from my side as well,” smiles Nisha who plays the khatti meethi Ghungroo in the upcoming ‘RGV ki Aag’.

Nisha leaves no stone unturned to prove that though her character is inspired from Basanti’s (played by Hema Malini in the original ‘Sholay’) it’s definitely not a copy.

“Ghungroo drives a rickshaw, acts like a tapori and tries doing a Rajnikanth as well,” laughs Nisha adding, “I want all the rickshawwallas to see this movie. They will get an idea how to decorate their autos,” she adds.

If Nisha romances Ajay Devgan in the RGV remake, she grooves with the cool-as-cucumber Fardeen Khan in an item number in the forthcoming ‘Darling’. So, who does she feel has more drool appeal?

“Fardeen looks royal. The moment he comes on the sets, he makes heads turn. Right from his approach, to the way he carries himself, he has a regal aura. Ajay, on the other hand, is an authentic Indian. He has intense eyes and a rugged appeal. Both are different in their unique ways,” she explains.
